### Business Ethics in Islam: Religious Guidance and Ethical Foundations

Ethics in Islam are considered fundamental in all aspects of life, including business. Islam encourages piety in all matters and teaches believers to be trustworthy in their dealings and truthful in their transactions. In this article, we will explore some of the ethical principles that should govern the behavior of Muslims in business, drawing on evidence from the Quran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

#### Truthfulness and Trustworthiness:

Truthfulness and trustworthiness are among the most important values that Muslims should possess in their businesses. The Quran repeatedly advises truthfulness and trustworthiness. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah says: "And fulfill the covenant. Indeed, the covenant is ever [that about which one will be] questioned." (Al-Baqarah: 177). In the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, he said: "Four traits whoever possesses them is a complete hypocrite, and whoever possesses some of them has an element of hypocrisy until he leaves it: when he is entrusted, he betrays; when he speaks, he lies; when he makes a covenant, he acts treacherously; and when he disputes, he resorts to obscene speech." (Sahih al-Bukhari).

#### Compassion and Mercy:

Islam encourages compassion and mercy towards others, including employees, customers, and business partners. Compassion and mercy reflect genuine intentions and empathy towards others, which leads to success and prosperity in the long run.

#### Justice and Fairness:

Justice and fairness are considered fundamental values in Islam, and Muslims should be just in all matters, including business transactions. The Quran urges justice and prohibits oppression and injustice. Allah says: "O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is acquainted with what you do." (Al-Ma'idah: 8).

#### Sincerity and Sacrifice:

Islam encourages sincerity in business and warns against being lured by worldly gains at the expense of ethical values. In a Hadith, Prophet Muhammad said: "Indeed, Allah loves when one of you does a job, he does it well." (Sahih al-Bukhari). This means that sincerity and excellence in work are the keys to success and acceptance from Allah.

#### Ensuring the Rights of Workers:

Business owners in Islam must ensure the rights of their workers.
